Where to Find Missouri Jail Mugshots

Jail mugshots in Missouri come from two main sources. County sheriff offices take booking photos when a person is brought into a local jail. These mugshots go into the jail's records along with the arrest date, charges, bond amount, and other details. Most Missouri counties keep these records at the sheriff office. Some post them on their website. Others use third-party tools like VineLink or JailTracker to share jail mugshots with the public.

The Missouri Department of Corrections handles state prison records. Their MODOC Offender Search tool lets you look up anyone who is currently under state supervision. That includes people in prison, on probation, or on parole. The search shows names, aliases, DOC ID numbers, physical details, mugshots when they are on file, assigned location, and sentence information. You can search by name or by the eight-digit DOC ID. The DOC Constituent Services Office can be reached at (573) 526-2695 for help with searches.

How to Search Jail Mugshots in Missouri

Several free tools let you search for Missouri jail mugshots online. The best one depends on whether you are looking for a county jail inmate or someone in the state prison system. Here are the main options.

VineLink at vinelink.com is the most widely used inmate search tool in Missouri. Most county jails in the state feed data into this system. You can search by full or partial name, or by an ID number. Results show the inmate's location, booking details, charges, bond info, and mugshots when they are on file. VineLink also lets you sign up for alerts. The system will send you an email or text when an inmate's status changes. This includes things like release, transfer, or escape. You can call 1-866-5-MOVANS to register by phone through the Missouri Victim Automated Notification System.

Case.net shows criminal cases, traffic citations, and other court matters. It does not display mugshots directly, but it gives you the case details you need to request records from the right court. The help desk is available at (888) 541-4894.

Many county sheriff offices in Missouri also run their own jail roster pages. Some of the most active ones include the Greene County JailTracker, the Jackson County Inmate Search, and the Clay County Detention Listings. These pages show current inmates with their jail mugshots, charges, and bond amounts. Each county updates its roster on a different schedule.

Missouri Jail Mugshots and the Sunshine Law

Jail mugshots are public records in Missouri. The state's Sunshine Law, found in Chapter 610 RSMo, says that government records should be open to the public unless a specific law says otherwise. Under Section 610.100, all arrest reports and incident reports are public records. Mugshots fall under this rule because they are part of the booking process.

The Missouri Supreme Court backed this up in Hemeyer v. KRCG-TV, ruling that booking videotape is a public record subject to disclosure. That case set a strong standard for access to jail mugshots across the state. The Attorney General's office provides a Citizen's Guide to the Sunshine Law and sample records request forms.

There are some limits. Under Section 610.100.2, if a person is arrested but not charged within 30 days, the arrest records (including the mugshot) become closed. Records also close if charges are dismissed, dropped, or the person is found not guilty. Social Security numbers must be removed before any records are released, per Section 610.035. Juvenile records are also off limits unless the minor was tried as an adult.

To request jail mugshots under the Sunshine Law, send a written request to the records custodian at the sheriff office or jail. The agency must respond within three business days. Copy fees are usually around $0.10 per page. Some agencies charge a research fee for older records.

Fingerprint searches take 7 to 10 days and use the IDEMIA IdentoGO system.

County Jail Mugshots Across Missouri

Each of Missouri's 114 counties operates its own jail through the sheriff's office. The way they share jail mugshots varies a lot. Some counties run full online rosters with photos, charges, and bond amounts. Others only share inmate data through VineLink. A few smaller counties have no online presence at all and require you to call or visit the jail in person.

Counties with strong online rosters include Greene County (Springfield area), Jackson County (Kansas City area), Clay County, Boone County (Columbia area), and Franklin County. These jails update their rosters frequently and include jail mugshots for most bookings. Other counties like Barry County, Bates County, Crawford County, and Christian County also post rosters on their sheriff office websites.

For counties without their own online roster, VineLink is your best option. You can search any county jail in Missouri through VineLink by selecting Missouri as the state and entering the person's name. The Missouri Sheriffs' Association can also point you to the right contact for a specific county.
